When JoAnn called me with the prospect of buying a Mortgage Note on a butterfly farm,
I couldn’t help but chuckle. How would I even begin to foreclose on a butterfly? I
imagined myself darting around with an oversized net, chasing delicate wings fluttering
through the air. Thankfully, that scenario remained in the realm of imagination.
The farm itself was a charming and eclectic enterprise. It boasted not just butterflies but
also a gift shop, a winery, a climate-controlled greenhouse spanning 800 square feet,
and a cozy 250-square-foot tiny home. Most of the value lay in the real estate, and
JoAnn’s decision to assign just $10 to the business aspect of the operation came as a
relief. I wouldn’t have to become an unwilling butterfly wrangler in the unlikely event of
foreclosure.
JoAnn was an absolute pleasure to work with. Her motivation for selling her note was as
inspiring as it was relatable: she wanted to travel the world and eventually settle in a
picturesque corner of Europe. Over time, our professional relationship blossomed into a
friendship.
I now follow her adventures through social media, where she always shares her radiant
smile and updates from her latest destination.
JoAnn’s courage and zest for life remind me of my daughter. A fiercely independent
spirit, she doesn’t let being single limit her aspirations. JoAnn travels wherever her heart
desires, fearlessly going solo and living life unapologetically on her terms. She even
shared her personal rules for traveling alone, which are worth emulating:
1. Go where you want.
2. Do what you want.
3. Sleep when you want.
4. Eat what you want.
5. Talk to strangers (don’t take their candy).
6. Be adventurous and fierce! Own it!!!
JoAnn’s adventurous spirit is something we could all aspire to. Her determination and independence are truly inspiring.
One of the most enjoyable and rewarding aspects of my job is helping people fulfill their
financial goals, transforming their assets into opportunities to chase their dreams. Every
client has a unique story and an equally unique Mortgage Note to sell. JoAnn’s was
undoubtedly one of the most memorable in my 46 years of experience in real estate.
Her story is a testament to the power of courage, the allure of adventure, and the

This is one of my favorite stories since JoAnn has goals and dreams and is pursuing
them and living life on her terms. She is truly living in a world of blue skies and
butterflies.
We should all have goals and dare to dream big. A mentor once told me we
are only limited by our imagination. I say set goals, write them down every night or
morning to keep them in the forefront of our conscious mind, and your subconscious will
bring them into reality.
